What is Solar PV?
A solar photovoltaic panel comprises multiple layers of semiconductor material, typically silicon. When light interacts with this material, it generates an electric current.
Contrary to popular belief, solar panels don't rely solely on direct sunlight for energy production.
They can generate electricity even on cloudy days and during winter months. The power output of a panel is influenced by the intensity of ultraviolet (UV) light, commonly referred to as sunshine.
UV light from the sun shines down and hits the solar photovoltaic panels.
Direct Current (DC) is created and power is sent down to the inverter.
The systems inverter changes DC current into AC current, ready to use.
Any surplus energy can be sent to a battery and stored in DC current.

Save more with a Battery Storage System
Maximize your solar energy usage with solar batteries! These innovative systems store excess energy generated by your solar panels, ensuring none goes to waste. By utilizing all generated electricity, you can maximize your savings and power your home when you need it most.
Capacity, measured in kWh, indicates how much energy a battery can store. It's vital to note that draining a battery completely can harm it. Some batteries are advertised based on their "total" capacity, but what matters most is the "usable capacity"—the amount of energy you can actually access. Understanding usable capacity helps you make informed decisions about the battery's suitability for your needs.
A cycle refers to one complete discharge and recharge of a battery, but in practice, it rarely occurs in full. For instance, a battery may only discharge 25% before recharging, constituting 1/4 of a cycle. It's crucial to understand how many cycles a battery is warranted for to gauge its longevity and performance accurately.
Lead Acid and Lithium are the two main types of solar storage batteries available. While Lead Acid batteries are inexpensive to install, they tend to be inefficient and have a shorter lifespan. As a result, Lead Acid batteries have largely faded from the solar storage market. In contrast, Lithium batteries, despite being more expensive upfront, offer better value due to their superior performance and durability.
Certain battery storage systems may only provide 800 watts (W) of power, which may not suffice for high-demand appliances like a kettle that typically requires 2000 watts. Similarly, if you're generating 4 kilowatts (kW) of power but the battery can only accommodate 3 kW, 1 kW will be exported to the grid, resulting in wasted energy. It's essential to ensure your battery storage system matches your energy needs to avoid inefficiencies and maximize self-consumption.
Comparing different storage systems based on price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of storage capacity is a fair and accurate method. However, determining the right number of kWhs for your property depends on your specific needs. The more kWhs you have, the greater your potential for bill reduction and leveraging "Time of Use" tariffs.
While most storage systems focus solely on storing energy, some offer backup capability to provide power during a blackout. If backup functionality is crucial for your needs, inform us, and we'll design bespoke solutions tailored to your preferences.
